On the sunny afternoon of Wednesday the 29th of April 2026, family and friends joined together to experience the Blessed Trinity College Music Department's A Celebration of Music Spring concert. The afternoon consisted of a diverse range of musical genres featuring the Choir, Staff Choir, Orchestra, Folk Group, Rock Band and the Recorder Group, all of which performed live.

The day started with walking into a whirlwind of musical chaos in the Somerton Road site music room. Students from across the year groups were gathered in the room together for final rehearsals before the big concert. They had been eagerly anticipating this moment for several months. It was a long journey with numerous obstacles for all the students and staff with consistent practices to ensure that the event would turn out to be successful. The Head of Music, Miss Stephens, stated ‘‘There were a few things that we had planned to put in the concert that were cut out because, when we were rehearsing, they just weren’t working the way we wanted it to and we didn’t really want to put any performances that weren’t a 100% ready to be performed.’’ However, despite the nervous atmosphere, the music department still came together, overcame the challenges and delivered a spectacular concert.

At 3.30pm sharp the Somerton Road Site Assembly Hall was packed with family and friends enthusiastically coming together to see the long-awaited event of the year. The guests walked into warm greetings from prefects and the senior leadership team. They were provided refreshments, courtesy of the BTC staff. The concert began with a short welcome speech by Euan Darby where he addressed audience and thanked them for their presence. The concert kicked off with a powerful performance of Revolting Children from the musical Matilda which was electrifyingly performed by the BTC choir. The students boldly sang about empowerments and inner strength which elevated the spirits of all the guests. The concert progressed with the Folk Group delivering a combination of various traditional Irish folk music consisting of: Star of County Down, Terry Teehans, Inisheer, Seamus Cousins and many more.

The concert also included various distinctive solo performances of covers:

  • Ellie Benson: As Long As He Needs Me
  • Erin McIvor: Think Of Me
  • Blathnaid McFarlane: Maybe This Time
    • Jedidiah Olantunbosun: Stole the Show
    • Haven Nelson: I Dreamed a Dream
    • Tiffany Prieto: Burn

One of the many unexpected surprises of the concert were the choreographed performances.

Throughout the concert, the choir delighted the audience with an eclectic mix of musical numbers. Their selections included Go to Distance/ Defying Gravity, Stand Up and Adiemus. These were all very uplifting and dynamic. There were a number of different types of choirs, which included the Senior Choir who performed the Four-Chord' song by the Axis of Awesome and the Staff Choir who performed the Sister Act Medley. One of the many unexpected surprises of the concert were the choreographed performances. The Year 11 Choir who performed ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ from the movie Encanto and the Senior Girls choir who performed ‘‘Six’’ from the musical, were both choreographed by Mr Sadaat with help of the choir. Miss Stephens expressed how the chorography for We don’t talk about Bruno was a ‘‘Good shock,’’ as she wasn’t aware of the choreography.  the audience and bringing many to tears.

Along with the many vocal selections, there were also many captivating instrumental pieces. Among which were: the Orchestra who executed an intense piece of ‘In The Hall of the Mountain King, The BTC Rock Band who bravely covered two of their original songs and the Recorder Group who performed the song ‘Kumbayah’ beautifully, with amazing teamwork and steady rhythm. One of two remarkable duets performed were by, Zoe Kelly and Euan Darby who dramatically and soaringly delivered the song ‘Suddenly Seymour’ with strong backup vocals from some members of the Choir. Shannon De Ridder and Summer Bustos performance of ‘For Good’ was undoubtedly one of the most emotional and heartfelt moments of the evening, captivating the audience and bringing many to tears.

The Spring Concert drew to a close with the Choir’s memorable performance of ‘So Long, Farewell from the musical ‘The Sound of Music, providing a fitting end to the concert. Shannon De Ridder gave a heartfelt vote of thanks and Ms Lyttle, the principle of BTC also gave a motivating and empowering speech. The evening came to an end with a final bow from all the performers, which was met by a thunderous applause from the audience.

With the help of over 75 students and staff, to call the BTC Spring Concert 2026 a massive success, would be an understatement; it was sensational celebration of talent, hard work and school spirit, which left the audience feeling mesmerised, inspired and full of admiration for the performers.

On behalf of Blessed Trinity College, we thank all the guests who came to support the concert and most importantly we extend our utmost gratitude to every student and member of staff that made this evening an unforgettable experience.
