Ellie Malone, year 8, joined as a junior correspondent for The Trinity Times, at Blessed Trinity College. In this article, she recounts her first day at BTC and interviews her fellow classmates.

The first morning of school, I was still tired. Not as much, but I was still annoyed at having to get out of bed early, instead of sleeping in. I went downstairs to get breakfast. I felt fine. I wasn't nervous as I'd already visited Blessed Trinity College with my primary school, every Wednesday. I went to Holy Family and we came up to visit BTC to do activities like baking, science or drama, which are all things we wouldn't have done at our primary school.

As I walked through the doors of BTC, someone showed me to my form class. It was really clean and tidy. I noticed that one of my old classmates, Ella, was in there too. We've been friends since we were in P2. I was happy because I already had a friend here. The seats were a bit hard and uncomfortable but that's OK. I can always use my blazer to help.

The worst part of my first day for me, was History. I personally am not a fan History, so I didn't enjoy this subject.

For me, the best part of BTC has been lunch. There's usually chips, they taste good and their always warm. I like that at lunchtime we get to be nearer to the front of the line, mainly because our baseroom is at the start of the hallway. The baseroom experience has been really enjoyable, as it's a good place to relax and settle after an eventful break or lunch.

I'm enjoying ICT because I like computers and technology. I'm looking forward to coding and learning how to do that, as it's something I think I'll enjoy.

I joined the Trinity Times Team because I just wanted to try something new. I've also joined Art Club. I've been set the challenge by another Trinity Times Member (Chinmay Sankar Year 12) to break his Accelerated Reader Word Count Record (6 million words!) I'm pretty confident because I like to read.

We interviewed some Year 8 students, who just joined Blessed Trinity College in September 2026. I asked interviewees about hobbies and interests, their primary school, and their opinion of BTC.

For my first interview, I interviewed Dominik Wojnowski in 8A. Dominik is possibly the second tallest student in the class.

"My hobbies are music, biking and scripting. My primary school was St Patrick's. I think that BTC is good school, with the potential to be incredible."

Up next was Emmet Og Little who said, "My hobbies are playing Delta Rune, trains and the colour green. My primary school was Bunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin. I believe that BTC is a great school, but there could be more to do outside, at break."

Next was Jenna Mahoney (8C), "My hobbies are football and I came from Holy Family. I am enjoying being at Blessed Trinity so far."

Finally, I also had a chat with Jake Frame-Donnaghy from 8A. He says, "My hobbies are sitting and relaxing. I came from Holy Cross Primary School and I am currently exploring BTC and getting to know it."

Advice for Aspiring P7s

My advice for the kids who are nervous starting a new school, is that all your nerves will fade away, once you are there (which may or may not take long, depending on the person) sooner or later. Another piece of advice, is don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and speak up for yourself when you need help.
